Randall had no words for Lily which is why he didn’t say anything when she asked if he was still in love with Farrah. The truth was that he didn’t know what he felt. Farrah was his wife and he took his vows very seriously so of course it hurt to hear what she’d been planning. And he had no doubt that about the truth of Sunisa’s words. He could remember Farrah wanting them to check out a swinger’s club. She said it was to spice things up. But now he can only assume that there was something missing for her. Something he definitely couldn’t give her.
Farrah wanted a man… and a woman.
How could he have not put it all together when she would throw out the occasional comment about how hot it was to see two women together during the rare instance in which they’d watch adult movies together? The sight of it would get her so aroused that she’d practically jump him before it was over. He thought it was just her latent attraction to women. He thought it was harmless.
He’d thought wrong.
If he had to admit his true feelings, then he’d admit that all of this time, he thought he was still in love with Farrah, but he was only in love with the idea of her. What he thought she was. Farrah… the one who did no wrong in his eyes. The one who like that he had a dominant side. The one who was adventurous and liked to have fun – sometimes too much fun. The one who never complained or griped or seemed to care about how much he worked.
Thinking back to that time, her lackadaisical attitude should’ve been a red flag. He should’ve thought it weird that his wife wasn’t as possessive toward him as he was toward her. She even encouraged him to go after what he wanted. Fuck! She probably had someone back then. She probably always had someone on the side to satisfy the side of her that craved to be with a woman.
Had he ever been in love with her? Yes, I cared for her and yes I loved her but as their relationship played out in his head he could almost see what he chose to ignore. He wasn’t in love with Farrah at all. He was in love with the idea of what they were creating. A marriage, a future, a family… All of the things his parents had before his mother died… All of the things he thought he should have as well.
Lily wanted to give him that life and he was definitely in love with her. She was the fun-loving adventurous, spontaneous woman that Farrah was but when they were together, Lily didn’t seem like she’s missing something. He knew that he is all she’d ever need and vice versa. When he was with her, he felt like he never wanted to be away from her.
“Damn, I’ve messed this up. I need to find her.”
